My Psalm

by Marissa Dixon

This psalm is not Scripture, but a heartfelt reflection written in the style of the psalms—honest, prayerful, and directed to the Lord. Like David, we come with real emotions, real struggles, and real hope in God’s faithfulness.

Oh Lord, wonderful creator

All knowing Father, who cares

more deeply than I will ever understand.

You oh Lord, are the ultimate sustainer!

I know you have a plan laid out for me;

so if you say go, I will go.

But I think this time you are asking too much!

I haven’t slept in weeks.

My head is barely above water,

I’m gasping for air.

How can you ask more of me?!

Yet still, you press it on my heart;

it is time to serve.

You say to me “have I ever let you drown?”

Oh Lord, I know you are the mighty provider;

but I don’t have any more to give!

Then you whispered those familiar words,

and the turmoil in my soul began to ease.

“Trust me!” You proclaimed.

How could I so quickly forget the depth

of your love and provision?

You have always been there and you will always be.

You were the father my heart longed for.

You brought me Michael when I most needed tangible love.

You held us when Sarah died.

You gave us strength and patience to take care

of her boys.

You led us home, when we were desperate to return.

You provided meals when we had no money.

You led us to jobs, we didn’t know we needed.

You blessed us with 3 beautiful children.

You protected us when our bodies were failing.

You’ve allowed us to question and try our own way,

but you always guided us back with gentle strength.

You heard our cries in the waiting,

and comforted us with your steadfast arms.

You are the source of our joy,

and our strength when adversity strikes.

Oh Lord, forgive my doubts; I know you are good

and you will carry me through this season too.

Now I see, faith requires action,

But by your strength not my own.

If you say go, I will go!

May my life be your story, Lord.

Let it tell of your strength and kindness.

Let it show how you are provider and sustainer.

Let it teach how trust and obedience go hand in hand.

Let it be proof that your way is not always easier,

but it is most definitely better.

May your glory be shown for generations,

through our surrender.

Lord, if you say go, may we always respond: “I will go!”
