Our Greatest Reward

Happy Mother’s Day, Center! Psalm 118:24 says “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” This is a special day to thank all of our moms for all that they do and how God created them to love and serve their families well. Our church rejoices with all moms today because God continues to empower you and equip you to do what He has called you to in your specific family.
Moms, motherhood is a beautiful gift that can bring us much joy, but our greatest gift, our greatest reward is God Himself as Genesis 15:1 says, “I am your shield, your very great reward”. When we completely focus on God in our motherhood, we receive our reward in Him alone.
Moms, receive these attributes of God as a blessing over your life as a mom today:
God is our Creator: Colossians 1:16-17 says, “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Moms, you were created through God and for God. He created you to be a mom to the children that He created for you.
God is Wise: James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Our all-wise God is generously offering His wisdom to you, moms. We need to ask Him for His wisdom in motherhood as we raise our children to know Him, encourage our children, discipline our children, and speak truth in love to our children.
God is Immutable (Unchanging): Psalm 102:25-27 says, “in the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years never end.” Moms, the seasons of motherhood are always changing, you are always changing, and your children are always changing. The God who never changes is calling you to Himself. His Word is your firm foundation, He is steady, He is your Rock, your Fortress, your Shield, and He is faithful. Jeremiah 29:13 says that you will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all of your heart. God wants you to go to Him, the only One who is unchanging in all of your joys and challenges in motherhood.
Yes, moms, today is a day to celebrate you, but let’s admit that today can also be filled with grief for a lot of us. And, women of this church– we want you to know that you are loved and seen today. Receive the Lord, your greatest gift and reward as you hear these attributes of God spoken over you.
God is Omniscient (all knowing): Psalm 147:4-5 says, “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.” God knows your pain. God knows your grief, and sorrow. He knows every intricate part of your heart, and of your story. He knows all your desires. Trust Him, as He already knows and wants to comfort you in all of it.
God is our Comforter: Psalm 23:4 says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Church, we recognize that this day may bring up loss and grief for you. Loss of your mom, loss of a child, or loss of a relationship. The God of all comfort is with you, the Good Shepherd leads you and guides you gently with His rod and His staff through the many valleys that this life brings.
God is Compassionate: Lamentations 3:22-24 says, “because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” God’s compassions for you never fail. He gives us new mercies every morning as we trust in Him with our pain, sadness, regret, bitterness, hopelessness, and grief. The Lord is our portion, His Word will satisfy our hunger and desires.
Women, God is your greatest gift, your greatest reward. We can all celebrate in the eternal hope that we have in Jesus. 1 Peter 1:3-4 highlights this truth: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.
